Spring 2017 season runs from March 11th to May 13th.

Games are scheduled at 9/10/11am on Saturdays and 5:45 (U14) / 6:30pm (Others) on Tues/Thurs

Rules by Division!

ALL AGE GROUPS - Recreational Program

1. Most important rule - let the children have fun.

2. No alcoholic beverages or tobacco products will be consumed or allowed near the playing area.

3. Games must start on time even if you do not have enough players.

4. Coaches stay on the field during the game to work with their players and serve as referees.

5. Playing time: Each player SHALL play a minimum of 50% of the total playing time. All players must have an opportunity to play all positions.

6. Home team provides the game ball and calls the coin toss. Send captain(s) out to referee as he/she signals.

7. No slide tackles to be allowed.

8. No jewelry is allowed at practices or games, including plastic or metal headbands and barrettes.

9. Referees, in consultation with both coaches, will call rainouts. Make-ups can be played on Sundays.

10. All coaches must fill out and return Kidsafe forms ASAP.

11. DO NOT RUN UP THE SCORE. If you are winning by more than four goals, go into control mode. For example, take a player off the field, encourage players to pass and not shoot. Please do this with tact without insulting the opposing players.

12. The real purpose of soccer competition is to have FUN, to be able to participate to improve skills, to learn sportsmanship, to develop a sense of responsibility and self-discipline, to develop a group loyalty and comradeship, to learn to compete within established rules, to accept decisions of authorized officials, to seek interpretation or change through proper channels and to develop sound minds and bodies.

13. All shoes should be approved soccer cleats, or moulded sole cleats without a toe cleat. Metal cleats are not allowed. Regular gym shoes are acceptable but not recommended.

Kindergarten Soccer Rules (U6)

Game fields: Harry L. Coomes Recreation Center. Games are played behind pool/volleyball court. Practices are held in bowl area beyond playground. Please park in main parking lot for all activities and walk to fields.

The Number of Players: Games should be played with 4 players a side, NO goalkeeper.

Timing: Games will consist of four six (6) minute quarters with a two (2) minute break between quarters. There shall be a half-time interval of five (5) minutes.

Referees: Coaches stay on the field during the game to work with their players and serve as referees.

Ball: Size three (3).

Other: There will be NO direct, ONLY indirect kicks.

Other: The Throw-In: Conform to FIFA with the exception that an improperly performed throw-in can be retaken.

1st/2nd Grade Soccer Rules (U7/8)

Game fields: School Board fields A and B.

The Number of Players: Games should be played with 5 players a side, NO goalkeeper.

Timing: Games will consist of four eight (8) minute quarters with a two (2) minute break between quarters. There shall be a half-time interval of five (5) minutes.

Referees: 1 trained referee Ball: Size three (3).

Spectators: Must be on opposite side of the field from the player benches.

Other: There will be only indirect free kicks.

Other: The Throw-In: Conform to FIFA with the exception that an improperly performed throw-in can be retaken.

3rd/4th Grade Soccer Rules (U9/10)

Game fields: School Board field C.

Number of Players: Games should be played with seven (7) players a side, including goalkeeper.

Timing: Games will consist of four (4) ten (10) minute quarters with a two (2) minute break between quarters. There shall be a half-time interval of five (5) minutes.

Referees: 1 trained referee Ball: Size four (4).

Spectators: Must be on opposite side of the field from the player benches.

Other: There will be only indirect free kicks.

Other: The Throw-In: Conform to FIFA with the exception that an improperly performed throw-in can be retaken.

Other: At this level of play, the environment can be an excellent training ground for young referees. On game day, parents and coaches should enjoy watching the kids play, cheer for the players and refrain from yelling negative and/or directing comments at the referees.

5th/6th Grade Soccer Rules (U11/12)

Game fields: Abingdon Elementary School.

The Number of Players: Games should be played with nine (9) players a side, including goalkeeper.

Timing: Games will consist of four (4) twelve (12) minute quarters with a two (2) minute break between quarters. There shall be a half-time interval of five (5) minutes.

Referees: 2 trained referees

Ball: Size four (4).

Spectators: Must be on opposite side of the field from the player benches.

Offsides: Offside infractions are enforced starting with this age group.

Other: There will be direct and indirect free kicks and penalty kicks (from the 18 yd line).

Other: The Throw-In: Conform to FIFA with the exception that an improperly performed throw-in can be retaken.

Other: At this level of play, the environment can be an excellent training ground for young referees. On game day, parents and coaches should enjoy watching the kids play, cheer for the players and refrain from yelling negative and/or directing comments at the referees.

7th/8th Grade Soccer Rules (U13/14)

Game fields: Latture field (games), Abingdon High JV Field (practice; behind softball and baseball fields).

The Number of Players: Games should be played with eleven (11) players a side, including goalkeeper.

Timing: Games will consist of two (2) twenty-eight (28) minute halves. There shall be a half-time interval of four (4) minutes.

Referees: 2 trained referees

Ball: Size five (5).

Spectators: Must be on opposite side of the field from the player benches.

Other: Offside infractions will be enforced.

Other: The Throw-In: Conform to FIFA with the exception that an improperly performed throw-in can be retaken.
